Up until now, only a limited number of Orkut users had access to this feature with only four themes activated so far. More themes will soon follow. While there hasn’t been any official announcement yet, starting today, if you click on Orkut.com, it will redirect you to Orkut.co.in.

Facebook: Pakistan’s Favorite Dating Destination

Posted by TechInfo Admin on May 5, 2008

Facebook is now the eighth most surfed portal in Pakistan, according to a Press Trust of India (PTI) report. In a conservative country where it is still relatively difficult for members of the opposite sex to interact with each other, Facebook does come in handy for scores of youngsters who’re increasingly searching for love and friendship through such Web sites. Meanwhile, the older generation who isn’t quite accustomed to these newer and hipper ways of wooing and romancing, cannot but relate to the Facebook phenomenon. In turn they’re closely monitoring their children who they think spend too much time Facebooking. Even educational institutions are taking steps to ensure that students don’t waste their time on such Web sites. For instance, the prestigious Beaconhouse National University in Lahore has blocked Facebook in its computer labs saying it is a big ‘distraction’ for students.

A camera that can tell how much blood is present in the car!!

Posted by TechInfo Admin on May 3, 2008

British officials are installing a series of cameras designed to enforce the proper use of high-occupancy lanes by punishing solo drivers. How will they detect these scofflaws? By scanning each car that passes by with a camera that can tell how much blood is present in the car.
The system is a response to people who are using mannequins in passenger seats or—and even I have trouble believing people would actually do this—taping oversized pictures of people to the windshield, all as part of an effort to trick regular enforcement cameras into seeing a second person riding in the car. By scanning for blood (and other bodily fluids) using a special infrared camera system, such tricks won’t work, at least until blood-filled mannequins hit the market.
Naturally, the government is defending the cameras as a necessary means to enforce the law and punish drivers for rampant abuse of the car-sharing lanes. Meanwhile, drivers are peeved over the privacy invasion implications of such a system.

Avoid spelling errors with this Firefox tricks

Posted by TechInfo Admin on May 2, 2008

Firefox users can tweak a simple browser setting to ensure any word entered into a text box gets spell checked. The Download Squad highlights a nice Firefox hack that makes this possible.

To change it do the following:

1. Open your Firefox browser, and enter about:config in the address bar. This opens up the browser’s configuration window.
2. Search for layout.spellcheckDefault in the filter box, and change the value from 1 to 2.
3. Close the configuration window.
4. Open a new window, and test the hack by entering misspelled words into a text box. Misspelled words should have a red underline, and if you right-click on the word, you’ll get a list of suggestions. Now just choose the right spelling.
